What is meant by multiple identities?
Because of the roles that people play this and have more than one person within society, meaning society sees them within more than one persona. Meaning there are different personalities constructed of the many characteristics in which society sees this role possessing. This was made from different attributes such as parental roles volunteering positions job roles identity roles and the way in which the person presents themselves to the world.
However, these identities formed?
Formations fighting to start early in life because of the connotations are added to every aspect through societies form of gender norms. A person begins recognising that self-development around the age of two this becomes more complex as they grow older as they are subjected to different roles in which society see the way they should be living. Every aspect of a person's life as they get older becomes a form of describing themselves and their beliefs.
Social categorisation
we categorise the world in relation to ourselves at a section of others is affected by people's material possessions, objects can be influenced by marketing and advertising and therefore put into classifications in our minds. Categorising individuals can lead to becoming detached and personalised because the focus is on groups of people in the types of possessions they own rather than who they are.
social comparison
social comparison is how people learn about themselves by comparing similarities to those that are similar to themselves within a close community or society. The comparison is driven by the need to maintain and sometimes increase positive self-esteem, almost climbing the social ladder.
Strong brand identification
consumers have a strong relationship with their preferred brands, some people have put into a similar category because of the brands they prefer. Apple was found to be much more likely part of a consumer self-concept in comparison to computers made by Windows. People who use Mac felt as if they were in a smaller tightknit community due to the fact that fewer people use Macs.
Negative effects on body image
comparing to others' physical appearance can have a negative impact that some people can feel as if the body image they are aiming towards as unattainable or unrealistic. Manipulated imagery saturates the media to inflict these images onto influenced audiences.
