I have decided to go the idea of creating a zine, originally the scene was going to contain good examples of bad design to do with the industry.
After reading over my essay and multiple points in which designers in the current industry are saying that you need to go with your personal ethical beliefs in order to create an effective design. In order for a design to be effective, you must believe in what you're saying, meaning as a designer you must turn down some projects in which you don't believe in that disagreeing your beliefs. Basically, this could be anything from stating social norms through imagery, the overuse of environmental factors such as a project which promotes the deforestation of the Amazon the capitalist reasons, or simply a political engagement with a party that supposed to your personal political stance.
The key to be able to say this to a design practice/client is the ability to say no, because the way we are trained as designers, to delve into each and every project that you get the opportunity to, we see saying no is a negative thing. Therefore my zine will be based on the idea of the positives that come with saying no to a client, it will explore the ideas around what saying no to a client could lead to, and therefore hopefully gain a better perception of turning down work in order to improve other areas of your practice or to stick to your beliefs. Due to the nature of the zine, it will be subjective in the way that people take on board the advice that it is giving, either helping the designers embrace saying no, or allow them the confidence to know that it's okay to say no.
