Front Cover Digital Development

These covers have been developed in the style of the wireframe designs which I have previously explored and chosen. The image shown in the experiments below is a stock free image, that has been selected to experiment with whilst waiting for photographers to respond to me to be able to use their imagery within the piece.

Figure 1
Figure one rather than a full bleed uses a small border, this means the negative space which contains the logo doesn't seem too out of place. The overlay of the coloured type specifies the season of the release of that magazine, by overlaying it over the image it leaves negative space around the logo high lighting it as the secondary main focus of the cover. The colour has been sampled from the clothing in the image, to offer further continuity.

Figure 2
Within this experiment, the title was bought down over the image to bring the focus on the page onto the image. This is exemplified by the use of the image is full bleed at the edges.

Figure 3
The text has all been bought into the white space of the image giving a more equal balance to the importance of all of the information given.

Figure 4
The negative space has been minimised to give more precedence to the image, allowing for more of it to be seen and it to take the prominent focus on the cover. Yet I feel this doesn't correctly give the feel of a fashion lifestyle magazine as they tend to have a lot of white space.
Figure 5
This development reverts back to a larger negative space, for the title and other text information, ordering it this way gives the text a sense of hierarchy drawing attention to the title more than the seasons, which could be perceived as being the focal point in some of the other experimentations.

My final experimentation for the cover sees the positive design points pulled from all of the previous experiments. The seasonal information is sampled from the clothing in the main photo, to highlight its link, and also to make it seem more separate from the title; which is reaffirmed by the use of the alternative typeface. Alongside the central positioning of the logo and it's black hue making it the clear focal point of the cover. Whilst also bringing back the small white border ensuring a balance between the negative space and imagery, giving it an overall more luxury simplistic fashion feel.
